Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy :-)

ReplyDeleteThank you so mush for everything Miss! You made English fun and beautiful! The school is so lucky to have teachers like you! xxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteAh lads... YOU made the classroom beautiful: the silent ones, the chatty ones, the late ones, the VERY CLEVER ones and even the grumpy ones. Can't quite believe it has come to an end... just remember that YOU ARE VERY SPECIAL and this is your time. Celebrate your achievements, dance your hearts out and look forward to what is going to be a wonderful future. See you in June.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for everything Miss! I'll really miss your wonderful English classes! Sophie xxx
ReplyDeleteThat means so much Miss, you've left me (almost) speechless. But it's because of you that memories from A3 will always be some of my fondest from High School. Your constant support and encouragement has helped more than you know, and you deserve all the thanks in the world.

ReplyDeleteThank you for teaching me the more important lessons of life, for brightening many the day and for reminding me why I love High School. It is teachers like you who make school worth coming in for, thank you so much for everything.
Thank you Martha! Just seeing this message now. 'Still finding the perfect quotation to fit every situation... :-) I like it!
ReplyDeleteI am the one who should be thanking you all for making me feel so welcome back in High School after being out of teaching for so long. You made it easy for me to be myself and never complained - even when I went off on one about Joni Mitchell or Jane Eyre. I will miss seeing you lined-up outside my room, your faces smiling and your voices chirping away happily. I have got your Aspiration Clock on my wall now,(on the Harry Potter side) so your pictures will be there looking on ... (in Harry Potter style) for many years to come! Keep reading, keep smiling, Ms B
